Indie business email marketing tips November and December

Some indie businesses make up to 50% of their sales for the whole year during November and December. In fact one of my clients said exactly this back in the summer when she actually had the time to talk to me!

If you’re just going into a period like that, why would you even bother with email marketing?

Well, in January your sales will drop off as customers tighten their belts after Christmas, and you’ll also be knackered after a busy season so might not get fully back up to speed until February. If you capture the emails of those November and December customers and keep them engaged, it could boost your sales in January and beyond by simply sending a few emails.

If you have a business that’s predominantly local now (especially if you’re in a location with lots of tourists), you could encourage in-person buyers to buy online from home in the months ahead because you have their email addresses and they already love what you do.

If you have the email addresses of all those pre-Christmas buyers you have so many more options including sending them offers, starting a VIP club or even just selling off stock at the end of the season without shouting too loudly about it.

It doesn’t have to be a lot of work, in fact you may already be collecting email addresses but not really doing much with them (because you’ve been too busy getting ready for Christmas?) If not, just take a few minutes to identify points in your sales and marketing processes where you could capture email addresses – ethically and respectfully – by integrating your ecommerce software with an email marketing platform or asking buyers if they’d like to join your mailing list at the point where they make a purchase.

Then, set up an automated welcome sequence so they can get to know you better – tell them your origin story and what makes you different before making a special offer, for example.

If you feel you simply don’tt have time for all this, I can help. We could do any of these together:

– Book a power hour to chat through your email marketing strategy. I bet I can streamline it for you so you make the most of your time
– Book a short call every week or two weeks where we look at your reports and plan your activities for the next week or two, giving you the accountability to get the emails out each week. It’s alot easier when you don’t have to reply on your own willpower to get it done.
– No time at all? I can set up your automation and welcome sequence for you, or schedule a series of emails with your Christmas offers and promotions.

Just drop me a message here and we can have a chat.
