Should you change email marketing platforms?

Last week, I had a conversation with someone who had 12,000 subscribers in Mailchimp, built up over a number of years from his podcast. Nice work!

The problem was that it was costing him around £200 a month and he wasn’t making enough from his list to justify that price tag.

Now, there are lots of ways that a list of that size could pay for itself and more, but let’s put that to one side for now.

The reason he was still coughing up £200 a month when he could be paying around half that at Mailerlite is that he didn’t know he could move.

You can *always* move. They question is…it worth the effort for the benefits you would get from it? If you have a list without any fancy integrations and automations, then it could be surprisingly easy to move. Even with integrations and automations, it may well still be worth it. Some of the platforms will even migrate you over so you don’t have to do it yourself – and of course I can do this for you too. If you’d like to do it yourself, here’s my step-by-step guide to changing email marketing platforms.

Mailerlite even has a feature where you can import your list directly from Mailchimp.

It doesn’t have to be about the money, by the way. Just finding the dashboard clunky and unintuitive can be a good reason to move, too.

I’m not saying Mailchimp is a rip off and Mailerlite is always better. Mailchimp is absolutely the right platform for some businesses, in fact it’s very powerful, especially for ecommerce businesses. But because it’s the best-known platform, people tend to go straight to it as beginners and they can end up paying a lot for features they never use.

Don’t be afraid to move if your platform isn’t working for you.
